Introduction to Bookbinding 

Instructor: Margot Ecke  

Registration Now Open for February 2017 

Dates: February 4 – February 25, 2017 

Day & Time: Saturdays, 9am - 12pm  

Length of Class: 4 Classes, 3 Hours each Class  

Class Fee: $110 OCAF Member / $120 Non-member 

Materials Fee: $25 (Payable at 1st Class)

Student Materials List: Small glue brush, Large glue brush, Metal ruler (no cork back)

Ages: 14 to Adult 

Skill Level: All 

Class Description:This four session course teaches students the basic stitches needed to construct a variety of book structures.  We will cover accordion and maze books, stab bindings, Coptic books and more. Students will become familiar with the vocabulary, tools, materials and techniques associated with traditional bookbinding and leave with a love of binding as well as a strong foundation for more advanced learning.

Margot Ecke is the owner of Smokey Road Press. She received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her BFA from Cornell University. She received a Professional Printing Certificate from the Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico and completed her training by earning her Diploma in Bookbinding at the North Bennett Street School in Boston. Margot was the Victor Hammer Fellow in the Book Arts at Wells College in Aurora, New York from 2004-2006, and has taught workshops at the Penland School of Crafts, the Atlanta Printmakers Studio, the North Bennet Street School and the Ink Shop. She was an Assistant Professor of Book Arts and Printmaking at the University of Georgia from 2006-2009. Her work is exhibited both nationally and internationally.
