Beginning Pottery Wheel-Throwing with Forrest Gard

Day/Dates:  Thursdays, March 30 – May 4, 2023

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Age: 16+

Level: Beginner to Advanced

Class Fee:  $200 members/$240 non-members

Materials Fee: $35

Class Description:

Wheel Throwing:

Come in and learn how to use the pottery wheel! In this 6-week class, we’ll cover the basic techniques of throwing. We will start off learning how to center a ball of clay and as the class progresses, we will learn how to shape the clay into cups, bowls, vases, and more.  The class will be loosely scheduled as follows: Week 1: Centering, Basics, Cylinders; Week 2: Shaping, Cups; Week 3: Bowls; Week 4: Trimming, Feet, and Foot Rings; Week 5: Bottles and Vases; Week 6: Glazing, open demo.

Forrest GardInstructor
Forrest Sincoff Gard is an artist and an educator. He received his BFA in Ceramics from Ohio University in 2009, completed post-baccaleaute studies at the University of Florida in 2011, and earned his MFA in Studio Art from Louisiana State University in 2014. From 2014¬–2018, Forrest worked as an associate editor for Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated. Currently, Forrest teaches ceramics and 3D design at the University of North Georgia Oconee as well as community classes at the Oconee Cultural Arts Center in Watkinsville, Georgia. He has previously taught in Cortona, Italy, as part of the University of Georgia’s study abroad program, at Ohio State University, and Wesleyan College.
