Project Description

Pottery: Hand-building

This class will focus on the making of ceramic vessels through hand building techniques, including pinching, coil building, and both soft and hard slab. Surface techniques, such as making and using stamps, carving, use of slip/underglazes, and water-erosion will also be introduced as methods to elevate form. Additionally, ceramic terms and definitions will also be taught to further understanding of the medium.

Along with building techniques, glazing and firing will also be taught or explained.

    ESTHER MECHInstructor
    Esther Mech was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised on the eastern coast of the United States. She received her BA in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from Wesleyan College, and her MFA in Ceramics at the University of Georgia. Her work consists primarily of wheel-thrown and altered utilitarian ceramics, and she sees her work as complete only when it is in use. She is currently living and working in Watkinsville, Georiga.
