The opening Gala, Reception and Preview Sale are a pottery collector’s paradise with an extensive selection of hand-made functional pottery with over 6,000 pots to choose from in the Rocket Hall Sales Gallery. Meet and mingle with this year’s participating potters while enjoying a catered buffet and liquid refreshments under the tents adjacent to the 1902 Building. Music will be provided by a jazz group, who perform a unique blend of Jazz standards featuring collective communication and soulful improvisation.
The Main Gallery will display an exhibit of 150 pots, titled “Participating Potters: 2019” consisting of two of the best pots by each of the artists and one piece from their collection. This annual exhibit is considered by many as the finest display of contemporary pottery in the southeast.
Rocket Hall will be rocking with more than 6,000 pieces of handmade pottery produced by 50 of Georgia’s finest potters. Most potters will replenish their stock during the event. This 16th annual premium sale of contemporary functional and decorative pottery is one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast.

Beth works with terra cotta, earthenware clay because it’s natural, a little raw, and unrefined. Her work is hand built using slab, coil, mold and sculptural techniques. Her surface work is painterly, involving layering of slips, stains, underglazes, oxides and glaze through the processes of wax-resist, texturing, carving, painting, slip trail and brushwork, requiring multiple firings.
Expand your pottery proficiency in a gallery talk through both exhibition galleries. Rob Sutherland of Good Dirt Studios will lead these talks covering pottery styles, clays, glazes, firing techniques and general information about various pieces in the exhibitions.
