Project Description
Sylvia has taught numerous metalsmithing classes at OCAF over the years. Future classes have not been finalized, but could include:
Beginner Class
Come explore the art of jewelry fabrication! Students will learn basic metalsmithing skills which will allow them to make earring, pendants, brooches and more. Techniques such as cutting, piercing, sawing, forming, texturing, soldering and finishing as well as tools and materials needed will be covered. No experience required!
Intermediate Class
Build on your metalsmithing skills by learning how to make rings. Students will learn how to form ring shanks, make bezels and set stones, add texture and other decorative designs, size your ring and also how to make an adjustable size ring.
Fold From Magic
Fold-forming is a technique of metalworking that allows sheet metal to be quickly formed into wonderful 3-D shapes and textures. From abstract designs to animal faces to flowers & beyond, these pieces can then be made into earrings, pendants, bracelets or any kind of jewelry you desire. Come join in this fun and exciting workshop and learn to make your own one-of-a-kind masterpiece to wear or give to someone special. No experience required.
Found Objects: Incorporating Small Treasures into your Jewelry
Do you long to create jewelry with the items you love to collect? Many striking works of jewelry incorporate found objects into the design. This workshop will focus on sawing, piercing, cold connections, forging, creating tabs to hold objects and soldering techniques to create one of a kind jewelry and adornments. Students will make up to three items (earring, pendants, brooches or rings) to keep or give as a gift. The class is appropriate for beginners who are interested in learning basic bench skills or experienced students who wish to build on previous Metalsmithing skills.
