CALL FOR ARTISTS: Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation Artist of The Week

The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) in Watkinsville, Georgia, is a non-profit organization.  Its mission is to enrich lives and help build a vibrant community through the arts. OCAF maintains a vision to inspire creativity, learning, and personal growth through visual arts exhibitions, art education, cultural events, and community collaborations.

Bearing this in mind, OCAF hopes to continue cultivating an appreciation for the arts by providing a new opportunity for “Emerging Artists” in 2021.  Starting on February 2nd, OCAF will feature an Artist of the Week.  The chosen work will be physically on display within our gallery, also via online on our website, and social media platforms. A selection panel will be responsible for choosing 48 new artists from submitted works. Selected artists work will be featured along with one of the following: a two-minute video with an explanation of the work, an artist statement or biography, not to exceed two paragraphs (or 300 words).

This project aims to increase exposure of new and emerging artists, while making visual arts more accessible to the local community and inviting both residents and visitors to view art from up and coming voices.

DATES OF EXHIBITION: February 2, 2021 – November 21, 2021. The exhibition will consist of virtual and in-person components. Dates are subject to change.

STEP One: Use this online submission form to enter your artwork into the exhibition by the 15th of every month, in 2021.

STEP Two: Once you have received confirmation your work has been selected, you will have a choice of dates made available to you, to show your work.

STEP Three: Once the date has been confirmed, please deliver your artwork to OCAF one week prior to your show date.

Details:

  • Existing works must be submitted via digital file.
  • Multiple views are strongly encouraged for all 3D works.
  • Artists may submit up to three works, however only one will be chosen.
  • All artists must be over the age of eighteen.
  • No theme has been selected to encourage experimentation, and exploration [Note: In the spirit of inclusivity, works must be appropriate for viewers of all ages]

ENTRIES/ELIGIBILITY:

  • Artists must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Artwork must not have been previously displayed at OCAF.
  • Works must not be overtly sexual, or obscene [An art committee will have the right to exclude any work that they deem inappropriate]
  • All sculptures must not exceed 4″ feet wide, or 6″ feet tall.
  • Artwork is required to be for sale.
  • 2D Artwork must be installation ready and appropriately framed.
  • Artist will be responsible for drop-off and pick-up and any shipping /delivery costs.
  • The Artist of The Week program will be comprised of a maximum of 42 works of art.

Existing works must be submitted via digital file. Selection is based on submitted works, so careful consideration must be applied to the quality of each work, and the images. Multiple views are strongly encouraged for all 3D works. All artists must be over the age of eighteen and reside within the Southeastern Region of the United States. In order to encourage innovation in emerging artists, there is no theme.

CRITERIA:

Please upload a high-resolution image of EACH INDIVIDUAL WORK. Images may be used for marketing purposes and will also be used by panel to select artwork for the exhibition. It is in your best interest to upload the highest quality image possible of your work. The panel will not see your work in person while selecting artworks! Make sure images are in full color, not blurry, and accompanied by any detail shots you feel are necessary. The selection committee will select artist based on the quality of execution of the work, design, composition, and technique.

ENTRY FEE:           

$20 for OCAF Members, $25 for Non-Members

WORKS:

All mediums are welcome, which include, but is not limited to; paintings, drawings, fabric/textiles, mixed media, sculpture, ceramic, photography, and jewelry.  2D works must be gallery ready, which means they must be framed and/or mounted. Sculptures may not exceed four feet in width, nor six feet in height. All works are required to be available for purchase.

TRANSPORTATION/INSTALLATION/REMOVAL:

Artists are responsible for delivery, assembly, installation and removal. OCAF will provide limited assistance and will supervise the installation of all sculptures. Please note if your sculpture will require special equipment or help to install. If the work has not been sold, then the artist will have two weeks in order to retrieve their work, or it will be considered abandoned/donated to the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation.

SHIPPING:

Shipped artwork and associated expenses/insurance are the responsibility of the artist. Each shipped work must be accompanied by a valid return shipping label. Artwork must arrive at least one week prior to the date agreed upon by the artist and selection committee.

SALES:

Artists make 65% of sales and OCAF will retain 35% commission.

NOTIFICATIONS:

Artists will be notified by email of dates available to showcase their work. Once date is confirmed a letter of Agreement will be sent for signature.

COVID 19 Alert: Currently, we are scheduling both a physical display for submission in our hall gallery, online at www.ocaf.com, and on our social media accounts. If it is not possible to view work in our gallery due to social distancing requirements, artists will be notified. However, we will continue to display work online.
