Workshop Description:

Create a unique face using fused fabrics. The creation of these faces will come from the participants. Using handout examples of face shapes and facial features or thinking of their own unique shapes, participants will create a face, any kind of face; serious faces, cartoon faces, long faces, short faces, big faces, little faces. This class is limited only to the participants’ imagination. These created face shapes and facial features will then be adhered to a background. Demonstrations will be given on thread painting these faces and/or drawing on these faces to give more definition to facial expressions or special features on the created piece. Discussions will further suggest other “findings” that can be adhered to the background to further add to the participants’ creations.

Technique

Using Wonder Under Fusible Web adhered to 100 percent cotton fabrics in a parade of colors, we will create eyes, nose, mouth, hair, teeth, and other features on a designed face and fuse these shapes to a 100 percent cotton background that is stabilized using ShirTaylor interfacing.  Handouts will include many ideas for creating the face shapes and facial features.
