Exploring Bowls: Throwing and Hand Building

Day/Dates: Saturdays: September 23, September 30, October 7, October 21, October 28, November 4

Time: 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Length: 6 Weeks / 2.5 Hours per Week

Age: 16+

Level: Intermediate

Class Fee:  $200 members/$250 non-members

Materials Fee: $35

Class Description:

Wheel Throwing:

This class will focus on creating bowls for a variety of functional uses. Participants will learn techniques for throwing bowls with decorative elements such as split rims, faceting, slip trailing, and stamping. Hand building techniques for creating bowls will also be presented. This course is designed for students who have experience throwing and can center clay on the wheel independently.

Bethany Hamilton-Jones has been working in clay for over twenty years after stumbling upon a college elective course and getting hooked! She enjoys producing functional pottery that incorporates multiple surface decoration techniques. Bethany has been teaching at Good Dirt Clay Studios for three years where her teaching philosophy of “practice, not perfect” has successfully guided new and returning students to learn skills while exploring their individual creativity. Bethany’s work has been included in local craft shows such as Indie South and OCAF Holiday Show.
