Glazing 101: An Introduction to Glazing with Forrest Gard

Class Description:

Come learn how to glaze your work. Bring in a couple of pieces of bisqueware to glaze during class. We will learn how to use wax to resist glaze; how to apply glaze by brushing it on, pouring in/out, and dipping entire pieces. Students will have the opportunity to use stains or underglazes before applying glaze. The class will also cover how to apply and use two different glazes in combination.

Forrest Sincoff Gard is an artist and an educator. He received his BFA in Ceramics from Ohio University in 2009, completed post-baccaleaute studies at the University of Florida in 2011, and earned his MFA in Studio Art from Louisiana State University in 2014. From 2014¬–2018, Forrest worked as an associate editor for Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated. Currently, Forrest teaches ceramics and 3D design at the University of North Georgia Oconee as well as community classes at the Oconee Cultural Arts Center in Watkinsville, Georgia. He has previously taught in Cortona, Italy, as part of the University of Georgia’s study abroad program, at Ohio State University, and Wesleyan College.
