PINCHED CUPS AND SAUCERS
Date: February 23, 2023
Class Description:
Come in and learn one of the foundational handbuilding skills: pinching clay. In this class, which is for beginners and no previous experience is needed for, we will learn how to compress clay into a ball and then using mostly our hands and a few tools, we will slowly pinch, hollow out, and shape that ball into a functional cup or mug. We will also learn how to attach two pieces of clay together to make more complex shapes and/or add on handles. All work will be available for pick up after the instructor bisque fires it, applies glaze, and glaze fires it (which will take about 3 weeks total with the drying and firing times).
SOFT-SLABS: TEXTURED TUMBLERS
Date: March 2, 2023
Class Description:
Come on in and learn one of the foundational handbuilding skills: working with soft slabs. In this class, which is for beginners, we will learn how to roll out slabs by hand and how to use the slab roller. We will learn how to smooth and compress our clay before shaping, scoring, and assembling it to create a form. We will also learn how to roll textures into our clay and how to use stamps to create textured surfaces. Templates will be provided for students to create either a tapered tumbler form (like a traditional pint glass) or one that has straight walls. All work will be available for pick up after the instructor bisque fires it, applies glaze, and glaze fires it (which will take about 3 weeks total with the drying and firing times).
COIL POTS: LARGE PLANTERS
Date: COMING IN APRIL – DATE TO BE DETERMINED
Class Description:
Come on in and learn one of the foundational handbuilding skills: Coil Building. In this class, which is for beginners, we will learn how to coil build medium- and large-scale planters. We will learn how to use our hands and various ribs to roll coils and then blend our coils and compress our walls as we work and create planter shapes. Once the form is complete, students can cut drainage holes in the bottom. All work will be available for pick up after the instructor bisque fires it, applies glaze, and glaze fires it (which will take about 3 weeks total with the drying and firing times).
