BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1975 , at the end of the Vietnam war is where my journey began. Attending Virginia Commonwealth University, and majoring in painting and printmaking I graduating with a BFA. This is where academically I fully studied the evolving history of art, At an early age I started copying comic book characters and began learning about compositions, color, figurative, space. From this point on I began studying more about different artist and began painting . What I mostly strive to do is to constantly push the boundaries and explore where my paintings can develop. When I predetermine my subject matters I try to universally keep them relevant to today’s culture. Even when I paint purely abstract my goal is to pushes for new ground and discovery as art evolves and rebirths.
ARTIST STATEMENT
What my paintings reflect are my life experiences, feeling and emotions, struggles, and ideas. How I progress my work is calculated and at times dealing with visual psychological concepts in art. At times the intended subject matters I compose dealing with imagery combined abstractly. When painting based from abstraction I pull forms and shapes from color into what I discover. As I paint my awareness of techniques and styles I combine all together as much as possible. There is no category of painting to me but to explore, progress, and discover. I create this by what I know into art by pushing oil and constantly thinking of each color, mark, line and how they all come into play. This keeps the process going as it progress into the direction it evolves. This can be by chance, risk taking,or aesthetics to produce the next step; then on to next until I feel the painting is complete. Alternating plans, shifting colors, spaces, all this and more I rely on my mark making and color. I feel there is no greater medium to use than oil. The feel, the blending, the viscosity, layering and effects, by far is the most unique in its way. That is why I choose oil for painting.
