Exhibition: Aurora’s Flora and Fauna
Main Gallery, 1902 Building, OCAF Art Center 34 School Street, Watkinsville, GA, United StatesAurora Alva studied Architecture in Mexico City. Her work in pottery reflects her love for architecture , art and nature. Surface decoration, beautiful forms and functionality are very important to her. Her work continues to evolve. Currently she uses white and raku clays. She uses a variety of methods such as wheel throwing, altering and marking techniques, layered underglazes, slip transfer and intricate application of glazing that brings unity to the finished piece. Handbuilding with Forrest Gard
School Street Studios 34 School Street, Watkinsville, GA, United StatesIn this class, you will learn the basics of handbuilding and surface decoration techniques. Students will learn how to pinch, build with coils, and slab build. Projects will be introduced on a weekly basis and will focus on handbuilt vessels, including cups, bowls, planters, and serving pieces. Students will be free to develop their own projects as well. Students will also learn how to decorate their pieces with various surface techniques, including brushing on slip, stencils, sgraffito, and mishima/inlay.
